As part of its oversight role, IGIS can receive and investigate complaints and PIDs about the activities of intelligence agencies, and the activities of the AFP and ACIC in relation to their network activity warrant functions.
Complaints
Under the IGIS Act the IGIS can receive and investigate most complaints about the activities of intelligence agencies, and the activities of the AFP and ACIC in relation to their network activity warrant functions. When handling a complaint that is within our jurisdiction, IGIS will review the actions of the intelligence agency to determine whether the Inspector-General should conduct a formal inquiry into the complaint.
Public Interest Disclosures
The PID scheme promotes integrity and accountability for Commonwealth Government agencies, including Australian intelligence agencies, by encouraging public officials to speak up about suspected wrongdoing. IGIS has a role in receiving, allocating and investigating PIDs about the conduct of Australian intelligence agencies or the network activity warrant functions of the AFP or the ACIC.
